The last months of pregnancy are a period of intensive preparations so that everything will be ready when the new family member finally arrives.
However, there are so many things to remember that future parents may sometimes feel lost and unsure whether they have managed to gather everything to take best care of their child. We have prepared a list of things to remember when preparing a layette for a newborn.
First of all, we need to take care of the place where the child will sleep. Newborns sleep up to 20 hours a day! Therefore, we must make sure that the place where he will spend so much time will meet his needs: safety and comfort.
Moses baskets are becoming more and more popular. They make the child feel embraced on all sides, they are made of natural material without the use of toxic paints, and they are very mobile. Additionally, their woven structure muffles light and other stimuli reaching the child from outside, which may disturb his sleep. We can buy a rocking stand for the basket and create a cradle. When the child grows up, the basket can be filled with toys :)

An alternative are extra beds for the parents' bed. This allows the baby to feel close to its mother in a safe way all night long, and also facilitates night feedings. Research also shows that the use of cots reduces the risk of SIDS.
However, if we are looking for a baby bed that will grow with the child and we will not have to replace it with a new piece of furniture after a few months, then a bed that "grows with the child" will prove unrivaled.

Another element that will be necessary is a place where we will change the baby's diaper. The changing table should be soft and ergonomic because we will use it up to a dozen times a day. If possible, it is a good idea to place the changing table in the immediate vicinity of the washbasin. It is also worth investing in an organizer so that you always have all the accessories needed for changing diapers at hand.

When it comes to care, we cannot forget about the bathtub in which we will bathe the baby. We know from experience that a big advantage is the ability to fold the bathtub so that it does not take up too much space in the bathroom.

You should also have a supply of comfortable clothes for your baby appropriate for the season in which he or she was born. Newborns cannot yet regulate their temperature on their own like older children, so it is our responsibility to ensure that they do not feel cold or overheat. The summer layette will therefore include short bodysuits and rompers, and the layette for a child born in winter should include warm rompers, overalls and tights. The number of clothes should also depend on whether, for example, we have a tumble dryer at home or whether we have to hang out the laundry and wait for it to dry.
It is important to remember that we cannot wash newborn clothes with the same detergents that we use for our clothes. They will be much too aggressive for the baby and may cause irritation, rashes and allergic reactions. Therefore, you should buy a delicate washing liquid for babies.

An entire book could be written about the right accessories for newborns. The choice is huge and everyone must decide for themselves what will be more comfortable to use. It is always worth considering your own habits, lifestyle and living conditions. My friend's recommendations will not always work for us. It is also worth choosing universal, certified, good quality and timeless products - this way we can be sure that they will serve us longer and better, and that they will successfully find a second life when we no longer need them.
