Seven-year-old Kerstin lives in a house at the very end of the village. In a secret box under her bed, she keeps a collection of gold objects - she has already collected a hundred and five of them! Even her hair is golden, although her friend Fatima says it is red. Kerstin's latest treasure is a wedding ring that she found at school. But this treasure means trouble. Because when her teacher asks if anyone has seen her wedding ring, Kerstin can't get a word out. And then it's too late...

Luckily, a new boy, Gunnar, appears in the area. He also has golden hair. But he has something else in common with Kerstin.

"I have an idea," Kerstin says. "We can start a club. The Secret Conditional Club. A club that dictates the terms!" "Yes!" Gunnar shouts, standing up. He runs to the end of the jetty and climbs onto a stake.
